Old-skool Emulators in DOSBOX (including RIPTerm)
I have rolled out an entirely self-contained distribution of DOSBox that includes a number of terminal programs, including RIPTerm for graphical connections to B4BBS. At the moment we have pre-made, self-contained distribution for Win32 and Mac OSX as well as a tarball to get people going on various UNIX/Linux-type systems (user to supply dosbox)
Instructions (Win32):
- Download a copy of the B4BBS client suite for Win32
- Expand the zip file somewhere sensible
- Run
b4bbs.bat - Type
B4BBSinto the DOSBox window that opens up. You should now be connected to B4BBS using a graphical terminal emulator!
Instructions (Mac OS X ):
- Save a copy of B4BBS client suite for OS X tarball into your home directory not Downloads.
- Expand the tarball into your home directory (note that this will overwrite any DOSBox configuration in your ~/Library/ directory):
cd ~ ; tar xvfz [client suite file]NOTE: Do this in Terminal.app. Double clicking on the tarball will extract the files in the wrong place! - Run the DOSBox application that is now in your ~/Applications directory
- Type
B4BBSinto the DOSBox window that opens up. You should now be connected to B4BBS using a graphical terminal emulator!
I know this process is a bit complex, .pkg format Installer coming soon.
Instructions (Generic UNIX/LINUX):
- Install DOSBox
- Download a copy of B4BBS client suite for *nix tarball.
- Expand the tarball into your home directory. If you decide to untar it somewhere else, make sure you edit the file
b4bbs/dosbox.confto reflect the new location of the files cdinto the install directory, run theb4bbs.shscript. (cd b4bbs ; ./b4bbs.sh)- Type
B4BBSinto the DOSBox window that opens up. You should now be connected to B4BBS using a graphical terminal emulator!
Not brilliant I know, I’m working on something much smoother.
